DEVISES NEW PROCESS FOR DRYING TEXTILE FIBERS PREVENTS FIBER DETERIORATION -- Der Volksbetrieb, No 12, Dec 49 Engineer Richard Dirks of Frankenburg has devised a new method for drying textile fibers which prevents deterioration of the fibers due to overdrying. The new process involves a combination of the ultra-drier and the steam drier. Since this process does not completely exclude the possibility of overdrying, a sensitive device has been constructed which shows the slightest trace of static electricity and thus indicates the degree of dryness. The device can be used for all types of fibers. Another new mechanism has been developed which automatically regulates the speed at which the material passes through the drier. The first model of a high-frequency drier, employing a high-frequency gen- erator and a mixed dielectric which removes the capillary moisture, has recently been completed. Overdryir_g of textiles with this machine is impossible. NEW FABRIC FOR AUTOMOBILE TIRES -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 90, 18 Apr 50 Experiments conducted with a cord silk made by the Pirna Artificial Silk Mills have proved that this silk surpasses cotton in durability and is highly suitable for the manufacture of fabric for automobile tires. INCREASES PRODUCTION OF ARTIFICIAL SILK -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 88, 15 Apr 50 The artificial silk mills in Pirna, Sachsen, exceeded their quota for the first quarter of 1950 by 103 percent.
