1QVOELL TO DIRECT JENA INSTITUTES -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 83, 7 Apr 50
Prof Dr Hans Knoell, National Prize award winner, has been commissioned
by the East German government to establish two scientific institutes in Jena,
the Institute for Tuberculosis Research and the Institute for Cancer Research.
In addition to his new duties, Prof Knoell will continue in charge of
the Jenapharm Plant and the Institute for Microbiology.
ZWICKAU PLANT TO MAKE RESPIRATORS -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 90, 18 Apr 50
Experiments conducted at the instigation of the East German Ministry for
Labor and Public Health in connection with the production of dust masks have
been sucr?essful, and the difficulties in producing high-grade colloid filter
elements have also been overcome. Consequently, manufacture of respirators
"made in the German Democratic Republic" has been started, elinunating the
necessity of importing such masks from West Germany. Several thousand masks
.will be produced by the Miners' Lamp Plant in Zwickau, and it is planned to
increase production to meet all requirements by autumn 1950.
CELLULOSE PLANT TO EXPAND INDUSTRIAL CLINIC -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 87,

The investment plan provides 25,000 Deutsche marks for the expansion of the
industrial dispensary at the people=owned Cellulose Plant in Wittenberge. The
money will be used for the construction of a new building, which will be equipped
with as X-ray station, a large dental clinic, a women's rest room, and a special
rest room for persons suffering from eye-strain.

The factory employs 2,300 workers. Of ?y'2G cL.ses o. illness -reported in
January 1950, 407 affected men and 119 women. Of 35 acc:~d:~nts which took place
in the plant, 29 involved men and six women. Of 1,452 workers who consulted
the dispensary, 358 were women. In January Z~7 treatments were given in the
X-ray station and 110 series of treatments and 352 single treatments were given
by the dental clinic.
TO ESTABLISR RURAL DISPENSARY -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 87, 14 Apr 50
The first rural dispensary in Kreis Doebeln is being built in Ostrau,
Sachsen. The design of the three?story building will be adapted to the rural
character of the locality, and its construction and technical equipment will
be thoroughly up-to-date.
To date, 32 industrial dispensaries and one rest home for tubercular
patients have been established in the Kreis.
