PLAN LAKE MALIQ CANAL -- Dielli, No 5927, to May 50
According to the Albanian newspaper Zeri i Popullit of 8 April 1950, the
state canalization plan for the Devoll District calls for an expenditure of
122,715,000 lek in 1950.
On Lake Maliq a canal about 5 kilometers long will be opened at Po,jan. It
will collect all the water in Po~an plain and carry it to the Devoll Canal.
A sum of 20,313,000 lek has been allocated for reclamation work at Lake Maliq.
The Ministry of Agriculture estimates that Albanian cereal production will
be increased by 11,000 quintals of wheat and 10,400 quintals of corn when this
reclamation protect has been completed.
INCREASE DISTRICT PLANTINGS -- Bashkimi, No 1661, 21 Apr 50; No 1664, 25 Apr 50;
No 1666, 27 Apr 50
Lushn,je -- Cotton planting has begun in many villages of the Lushn,je district.
According to contracts signed by farmers in this district, 5,014.9 hectares of
cotton will be planted here this year, or 3.8 percent more than the plan for
1950, and 45 percent more than last year's plan.
In the Lushn~e District, contracts have been sued with machine tractor
stations for plowing 6,852 hectares of land by tractor, or 2,148 hectares more
than last year.
The 1950 plan calls for planting 1,140 hectares of sunflowers in the Shkoder
District.
