The Leningrad :S..chlne-Building Plant imeni Vtoroy Pyatiletki has achieved
striking results though the :use of anode-mechanical units and special combina-
tion machine tools.
A seminar was recently held at the plant. Anode-mechanical cutting of
billets, sharpening of cutter, having weld-on hard-alloy blades, and, of course,
the simultaneous cutting of slits In stainless-steel plates by using multiple
disks were among the techniques demonstrated to representatives of other plants.

The plant must now design and build a multislot-cutting node-mechanical
machine tool for use in one of the plant's most important operations. The new
machine tool must be able to slot enough plates at once to achieve a sharp in-
crease in labor productivity. The plant must also convert to production of a
simplified'stainless steel drum-type knotter which will have a considerably
longer service period.
A special press has been designed and built at the plant.

The All-TJn;on Engineering and Technical Society of Electrical Industry
Workers (VNITOE) has recently been pushing for closer cooperation between sci-
entific workers and production workers. Notable successes in the drive have
been reported from Leningrad, hbarkov, Kiev, and elsewhere, In Novosibirsk,
1.2 members of the society have introduced anode-mechanical cutting and electro-
erosion machines into city enterprises.
