Prof Feliks Przesmycki, di- rector of the PZH, stated that the PZH studies the foci and spread of conta- gious diseases, tests water, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, and inspects food service. Today every person bitten by a mad dog or even a dog suspected of having rabies, is inoculated free of charge. PZH has special farms in Sluzewo near Warsaw and in Wola Slawinska where horses are reared for diphtheria and tetanus serum. Industry is much in need of the glands for making valuable hormone preparations. Roman Sadowski, a worker in the Kra- kow Branch of the Slaughterhouse By-products Center Bacutil, has pledged to extract the pituitary glands from 80 out of every 100 hogs slaughtered. LODZ SHORT 60 DOCTORS -- Ilustrowany Kurier Polski, No 73, 14 Mar 50 Lodz, which until very recently had many hundreds of doctors, lost such a great number in the reallocation program that it is now about 60 doctors short. There is also a shortage of ambulances despite the seemingly large num- ber of Social Insurance and Red Cross ambulances. In the next few weeks, six new cars are expected, and many more are expected within the first 6 months. These problems were discussed by the Lodz representatives to the health conference at the Ministry of Health in Warsaw. Since many doctors were greatly over"urdened, it was. decided to take steps to divide the work more evenly between the existing doctors.
