Several new high-duty automatic machines have decently been designed
at the Moscow Steklomashin Plant. Among them are a machine for trimoting
drinking-glass edges (40_per minute), a machine for grinding the edges of
glasses (25 per minute), and a machine for making test tubes (24,000 per
24-hour day). The plant is now engaged in getting these machines into mass
production.

The Steklomashin Plant is trying to complete its April program by
28 April.
This year it must supply co:?plicated new combination machines to enter-
prises of the glass industry. Some~of this equipment has already been pro-
. duced.
Last year several automatic machines for processing glass were made.from
salvaged metal. This year the-plant has ,determined to reduce losses from
defective products at least'S percent, and to, manufacture several more machines
from the materials saved.

One of the leading enterprises in Latvian SSR, the Sarkandaugav Glass
Plant, completed the production plan for the first quarter-in 2 months and
20 days.', Productivity of,labor was consid?rably increased, and the cost of
production,decreased`3 percent.

The Riga Sarkandaugav G1ass.Plant has fulfilled its Pirst-quarter plan,
It has attained great success dti4ring the past 3 years for .the rapidity of i~ta
xork. Output of glass has increased 61 percent over 1946. Each xorker
nox produces 111 percent more glass thaa is 1946, and'the productivity of
labor is 107 percent higher.
