REORGANIZE, EXPAND WORKERS MEDICAL CARE NEW DEVICES TO PROTECT WORKERS FROM JOB HAZARDS -- Express Wieczorny, No 60, 1 Mar 50 Recently the WUB-HP (Model Experimental Shop on Safety Measures and Work Hygiene) perfected a number of protective devices and clothing for workers ex- posed to harmful working conditions. $ome of the items have already been re- leased for mass production; others are still undergoing various laboratory tests and experiments. Hermetic goggles, closely adhering to the face of the wearer for full pro- tection from gas penetration; were perfected by the WUB-HP and are now being produced on a large scale. A special attachment on the goggles wipes vapor off the lenses. Welders' goggles made with double lenses, one colored and the other clear, are now being manufactured. These goggles protect the eyes from the strong glare while welding; by shifting the lenses, the worker may inspect the work without removing the goggles. Workers producing matches will receive shields made from fireproof material known as celon. Lighter-weight, fireproof shields will be supplied to laboratory workers and scientists. Tests performed on the shields were favorable. Tests are now being conducted on new, improved all-Polish-made gas masks which have two gas- or dust-absorbing canisters. These masks are so constructed as to permit the worker the greatest amount of freedom of movement on the job. The WUB-HP is at present perfecting safety belts for workers doing construc- tion work on tall structures without scaffolds. Life belts with air, chambers and a container of compressed air are being prepared for inland navigation, and cork life preservers for sea-going ships. Miners' helmets heavily reinforced for protection against falling objects and with special attachments for miners' lamps were tested recently by the WUB-HP. A special division of the WUB-HP is conducting tests on the strength and suitability of protective clothing in currentgntuse. g qF W U. K Il J L B I Ill. .
