The Kuybyshev Machinery Plant (Novosibirsk Oblast) and the Plant imeni Dergachev (Stalino 6blast), which used to produce 70-meter suspension roads, are now producing them 240 meters long. These will mechanize the work of cleaning stalls and facilitate fodder conveying in animal husbandry farms. The Peremetnoye Machinery Plant (Kazakh SSR) has begun series production of dump carts with a 300-kilogram load capacity. The Orekhov Machinery Plant (Zaporozh'ye Oblast) has produced an experi- mental crane for supplying water to cattle yards. It is powered by an electric motor and can raise water from depths of 60-80 meters. The Rostov Machinery Plant has increased its output of electrical sheep- shearing machines. The ministry also is preparing to produce horizontal scoop conveyers for root vegetables, grain fodder, and oil cakes. COUNTRY USSR SUBJECT Economic; Technological HOW PUBLISHED Daily newspapers WHERE PUBLISHED ussR DATE PUBLISHED 29 Mar - 18 Apr 1950 LANGUAGE PRODUCES VEGETABLE WASRERS AND CRUSHERS -- Moskovskays Pravda, No 42, 8 Apr 50 Plant No 4 of the Mosoblsel'maeh (Moscow Oblast Agricultural Machinery) ~frust has begun production of a machine for washing root vegetables and a potato- crushing machine, which are.intended for animal husbandry farms.. Both machines have been successfully tested. The washing machine can process 2,500-3,000 kilo- grams of vegetables per hour; the potato crusher 1,500-2,000 kilograms. The plant has already produced 50 crushers and washing machines. It will turn out 750 such machines in the second quarter; these will all be sent to kho].khozes and sovkhozes in the Moscow environs. Pushkin of the Yaroslavl' Automobile Plant, who initiated the movement for an individual-achievement accounting eys= tem, the engineers and designers of the Kharkov 5erp i Molot Plant are proceed- ing to improve the designs of their agricultural machines. Engineer Lesnoy has designed a scraper elevator to replace the existing scoop-type in the threshing machine, This will sav i ld kalsaving of 15 kilogramscofrmet lnanid 15 workehours of the sieve will also Y per thresher. PUTS OUT INFERIOR THRESRERS -- Moskovskaye Pravda, No 33, 29 Mar 50 In contrast to the Lubertsy Plant imeni LTkhtomskiy, which produces excel- ieat machines, the Zagorsk Casting and Machinery Plant No 1 of the Moseblsel'- mash is turning out shoddy BR-23 horse threshers. INVENTS NEW SEEDER FOR OAK PLANTING -- Izvestiye, No 87, 12 Apr 50 Glukhovskiy, a mechanic at the Saratov Agricultural Institute, h8s designed a mechanism for nest sowing of oak acorns. It can easily be mounted on an ordi- nary, horse-drawn grain seeder and can sow 15 hectares per day. Many k~lkhozea and sovkhozes in the Oblast have begun converting their horse-drawn seeders to the new type. TURNS OUT OIL ENGINES -- Leninskoye Znsmya, No 71, 8 Apr 50 The Krasnodar Zapchast' Plant has begun to produce oil engines to be used for the mechaniza'~ion of animal husbandry farms. The Kuban' kolkhozes will re- ceive 350 such engines this year. MTS GET NEW AGRICULTURAL MACHINES -- Kommunist, No 86, 11 Apr 50 The Akhuryan and Garibadzhanyan MTS have received large consignments of new agricultural machines, including self-propelled and Stalinets combines, seeders, and cultivators. This year, the t?PS will equip eight agricultural artels with electrical sheep-shearing apparatus and machines for preparing fod- der. PUTS OUT BORING MACHINE -- Izvestiya, No 82, 6 Apr 50 The Frunze Repair Plant of the Ministry of Agriculture Kirgiz SSR has be- gun production of a general-purpose boring machine. UPS COMBINE OUTPUT -- Krasnaya Zvezda, No 83, 7 Apr 50 The Zaporozh'ye Kommunar Plant's daily output of combines now exceeds last year's figure by 80 percent. Since the future growth of production of self -propelled combines de- pends greatly on the degree to which the plant is mechanized, two sections have been formed, one to handle heavy. mechanization, the other to take care of light mechanization. Considerable progress has been made recently. The gray-iron foundry has set up a cantilever crane to be used in knocking out heavy castings from the flasks. An overhead cableway connecting this foundry with the store_oom and shop No 1 has sharply cut labor consumption in sending coils of wire to the drawing drums. The removal of ~~.stings from the knocking- out grate, their transport to the cleaning room, and conveyance of the pouring channel to the cupola have all been mechanized. Malleable iron coming from the cupolas has the same mechanical qualities as the product of electric furnaces. This is due to the application of advanced techniques in smelting: increasing the scrap content of the charge 20-30 percent and modification of the pig iron with aluminum. The Malleable-iron Foundry has fulfilled its March program 136 percentiron has cut rejects 15 percent as compared with the February Pigure. The gray- foundry fulfilled the March plan 128 percent and cut rejects 20 percent. The quality of mold mixtures also has been greatly improved. The duplex process will be applied in smelting malleable iron; pneumatic machine molding molding of large, complex parts will be introducc?i; and tests will be run with a view to cutting down the annealing cycle for malleable iron.
