PARAMILITARY GROUPS INCREASE ACTIVITIES PROMOTE CLOSER TIES WITH ARMED FORCES -- Trybuna Ludu, No 89, 30 Mar 50 The Friends of Service Men Society, the Aviation League, the Maritime League, and the Polish Western Association held meetings recently to elect delegates to their general assemblies. Discussions at the meetings centered around the strengthening of Poland's defensive power through an increase in economic. potential and in military power. To achieve this end, the entire Polish population must express its support of the armed forces. Polish-Soviet brotherhood in arms must be popularized. Widespread technical education must be promoted as the second line of defense. The Friends of Service Men Society is active in propagandizing informa- tion about the armies of the people's democracies. In the near future, the society will undertake large-scale training of civilians in marksmanship, opera- tion, and maintenance of motor vehicles, and radio and short-wave technology. Training of glider and powered aircraft pilots was on the agenda of the recent meeting of the Aviation League. Practical training for defense on the seas and inland waterways was discussed at the meetings of the Maritime League and of the Polish Western Association. Also discussed were problems of coordinating this program with the activi- ties of trade unions, Peasants' Self-Help Cooperatives, the Polish Youth Asso- ciation, the Service for Poland organization, and various sports and athletic clubs.. TO TRAIN MARKSMEN -- Dziennik Lodzki, No 60, 1 Mar 50 The recently created Regional Marksmanship Association has already organ- ized 16 clubs, including four in Lowicz, Kutno, Wielun, and Piotrkow. These clubs comprise marksmanship sections in various athletic associations.
