USE LIGNITE MIXTURE FOR FUEL; TRANSPORT WORKERS INCREASE FREIGHTS LOCOMOTIVES TO USE LIGNITE -- Izgrev, No 1737, 19 May 50 The engineers of the Plovdiv Railroad Yard have passed a resolution to use lignite for locomotive fuel, mixed with 20 percent of Pernik coal, and sup- plemented by one-half ton of coal dust per locomotive for blending purposes. The Plovdiv engineers are urging railroad engineers throughout the country to follow the.procedure, which has already given excellent results. SCORE NEW TRANSPORT RECORDS - Izgrev, No 1730, 11 May 50 To celebrate the national convention of the Bulgarian Communist Party, transportation workers throughout the country have scored new records in freight shipping. During the period ending 1 May 1950, they have run 2,920 trains, carrying 557,761 tons of freight in excess of the norm. Under a norm providing 630 tons per train, the new records have cut the number of trains. Savings al- so included 8,850 tons of coal, and 55,776 additional tons of goods were shipped due to the elimination of cabooses. ' TRANSPORT WORKERS TO OPERATE IN COMBINED BRIGADES -- Izgrev, No 1731+, 16 May 50 Following the pattern set by Soviet transportation workers, the crew of the Sofia railroad yard has been organized in combination brigades including re- pair and locomotive personnel, who will share the responsibility for the flaw- less operation of locomotives. The first results obtained by the new units have been very gratifying; two locomotives underwent overhauling operation No 2 in 2 days instead of the 3 days provided by the plan.
