PARTISANS OF PEACE?MOVEMENT CLAIM 1 MILLION SIGNATURES IN CHINA STARTS WORLD-WIDE CAMPAIGN -- Peiping Jen-min Jih-pao, 15 May 50 The mass petition campaign of the so-called Partisans o~ Peace, insti- tuted at Stockholm in March 1950, by the World Committee in Defense of Peace, has already claimed 10 million signatures in China, 3 million in North Korea, and is receiving enthusiastic response all over the world. The Partisans of Peace Petition calls for prohibition of atomic weapons, strict international control of the atomic bomb, rod branding as a war crimi- nal the first government that drops an atomic bomb. HOLDS RALL'1 IN PEIPING -- Peiping Jen-min Jih-pao, 15 May 50 Peiping, 14 May (IIsin-hua) -- More than 6,000 people representing all circles in Peiping held the Defense of World Peace Rally on 14 May 1950 to propagandize the appeal to sign the World Peace Appeal Petition. Chung-shan Park, the scene of the rally, was decorated with large por- traits of Stalin and Mao, 38 flags of People's Democracy and colonial Asian .. countries, and was bedecked with such slogans as We demand unconditional pro- ;.ibition of the use of atomic weapons," "All peace-loving people of the world unite," "Al.l Asian peoples unite to oppose imperialistic aggressions," and "Struggle to uphold world peace." Many speeches were made at the rally. Chanulace~including religiouaei- ping, made appeals for the 2 million Peiping p p , groups, to sign the peace petition. Wu Yao-tsuag said that all religious groups in China are determined to destroy imperialistanumbernrefersito ap_and carry on destructive activities. The manifesto states in part that women are op- posed to ~;ar irhich will seriously endanger their hAppiness, their homes, and their loved ones. The Executive Council includes members from USSR, China, France, Rumania, Hungary,. Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, German Democratic Republic, Korean People's Republic, Mongolian People's Republic, Greece, India, US, UK, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, and two other countries. She is, at present, the chairman of the Tang-shah Women's League. She spoke before the Prepare*..ory Committee of the Canton Houaewive's League on the proceedings of the WIDF meetings and her experience in the women's activities in T'sag-shan.
