BERLIN FREIGHT BELT CONLDLETED -- Nachrichten fuer Aussenhandel, No 36, 13 May 50
The freight belt around Berlin, which the Berlin Reichsbahn Directorate
started in 1948, has now been completed. The last 50-kilometer stretch between
Mar2ahn and Oranienburg, via Karow-Schoenwalde, has been opened to traffic. This
new railroad line makes it possible to handle all Soviet Zone traffic without
touching the West Sector of Berlin.
APPOINTS 'NEW HEAD OF REICHSBAHN DIRECTORATE -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 138,

Hans Uhle has been appointed President of the Dresden Railroad Directorate
by Kreikemeyer, the General Director of the German Reichsbahn.l Uhle formerly
headed the Chemnitz Reichsbahn Office. He comes from a worker s family and has
been politically active and a trade union member since his early youth.
BRIDGE OPENED TO TRAFFIC -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 139, 17 Jun 50
The bridge on National Highway 6 near Jenkwitz, between Baut2en and Loebau,
was completed 4 weeks ahead of schedule and turned over to traffic. The bridge
is 25 meters long and 10 meters wide, and is of great importance to traffi:: be-
tween Dresden and Goerlitz. This completes restoration of the three bridges near
Baut2en which were blasted by Hitler troops in 1945?

' Construction work has been started on the new North Bridge over the Elbe
River and on the adJoining Herrenkrug Bridge :,ver the river arm known as the
old Elbe, in Magdeburg. The new bridge will be of importance for the Magdeburg-
Berlin traffic on National Highway 1.

NEW BRIDGE COMPLETED -- Volksst..mm~e, No 132, 10 Jun 50
The new bridge over the Chemnitz River at Heinrich-Lorenz Strasse in Chemnitz
was completed on 3 June 1950 and opened to traff is on 10 June 1950. The bridge
has a 60-ton capacity,
MORE STREETCARS IN EASTERN BERLIN -- Taegliche Rundschau, No 133, 10 Jun 50
People-owned railroad car factories in East Germany have returned 110 street-
cars to the BVG (Berling Streetcar Company) after a general overhaul. Altogether
144 streetcars have been turned in for general overhaul; the remaining 34 are ex-
pected to be delivered shortly. The BVG in Eastern Berlin now has 663 serviceable
streetcars (including both motor cars and trailer cars).
PLAN NEW BUS STATION -- Die Wirtschaft, No 23, 8 Jun 50
The Investment Plan provides 300,000 Deutsche marks Yor construction of a
new bus station in Magdeburg in 1950. The station, which will handle long-distance
passengers, will have several garages and storehouses, an administration building,
and a large hotel where drivers can stay overnight.
NEW BUS LINES IN SACRSEN -- Nachrichten fuer Aussenhandel, No 36, 13 May 50
The Sachsen Federation of People-Owned Enterprises for Motor Traffic has es-
tablished 21 new bus lines in Eastern Sachsen, the Erzgebirge, and Vogtland. This
Federation now operates 113 bus lines. The new lines mainly serve industrial cen-
ters,
