PART OF CH'ANG-CH'UN RR ?3EING DOUBLE TRACKED -- New York Rua-ch'iao Jih-pao,
3 Jun 50
Mukden, 26 May (Hain-hua) -- Double tracking of 400 kilometers of the Chi-
nese Chang-ch'un railroad line between An-shan and Ch'ang-ch'un is now in
progress. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 1950. It will
require the building of 81 bridges and the installation of much railroad equip-
ment and machinery. Since this is the most heavily traveled section on the
line, the second track will contribute greatly to the industrialization of the
southern part of the Northeast.
This section was double tracked when the Japanese surrendered in 1945,
but the Nationalist troops, which temporarily occupied the Northeast, stripped
the rails from the second track to build thousands of large and small for-
tresses in the southern part of the Northeast.
