CENTRAL, SOUTH CHINA TO SET UP RADIO LISTENING STATIONS STATION PERSONNEL TO BE TRAINED -- Hong Kong Wen-hui Pao, 9 Jul 50 Peiping, 7 July -- In accordance with the decision of the Central News Administration of the Central People's government to establish radio listen- ing stations throughout China, the commander of the Central and South China Military Control Commission issued the following notice to the head of each hsien under his command on 26 June 1950: 1. All contemplated radio listening stations must be set up before Oc- tober 1950. 2. Each hsien must innnediately select personnel to operate the listening stations. 3. The work of the listening stations includes receiving news, official orders, notices, news comments, lectures from the Central government, Central and South China Regional District, and local broadcasting stations, and.dis- seminating this information to the Party members and people as quickly as possi- ble by mimeographed sheets, blackboards, etc. Another news item from Peiping stated that, to meet the October deadline, the Central and South China' People's Broadcasting Station will begin train- ing personnel for listening stations in Hopeh Province from 15 July 1950, and those in Ronan Province from 5 August 1950. The personnel of listening sta- tions in Kvangtung Province will be trained by the Canton People's Broadcast- ing Station during July and August. Included were: 818 wireless telegraph receivers and transmitters, 70 long-range carrier wave transmitters and small electric motors, 270 electric generators, 4,448 telephone and telegraph equipment and switch boards, 57,327 radio tubes, 77,415 spare parts, and 308 tons of iron and steel wire. TIENTSIN POWER PLANT TO INCREASE OUTPUT -- Tientsin Jih-pao, 31 May 50 The No 2 generator of the Tientsin No 1 power plant is being repaired to increase output to the maximum of 15,000 kilowatts. Output of this generator before the liberation was 11,000 kilowatts, and with minor repairs it was in- creased to 14,000 kilowatts. ESTABLISH RADIO MATERIAL FACTORY -- Hong Kong Wen-hui Pao, 2 Jun 50 Peiping, 1 June (Hsin-hua) -- The People's Radio Equipment Factory was es- tablished by the Central News Administration in Peiping on 1 June 1950. This factory will manufacture radio transmitters, receivers, phonograph records, loud- speakers, and various other radio parts. The equipment for this factory came from the Radio Materials Repair Shop and the People's Phonograph Record Factory formerly located in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
