tuta Merzlotovedeniya imeni V. A. Obruchev , Vol I, 19416b, "Residential and
Small-Scale Industrial Construction in Permafrost Regions."
This volume represents the first work of the Permafrost Institute
imeni V. A. Obruchev, which was organized from the Committee on Permafrost,
Academy of Sciences USSR. This reorganization was effected in July 1939.
The volume contains works of practical importance relating to problems of
residential and small-scale industrial construction in two different perma-
frost regions. These regions (Dudinka and Yakutsk) were selected because

of their high potentialities. The awnil ii;LLUs;:;.ial =..v~-r~-??c- discussed
are power stations and a brick plant in the Dudinka region. This volume in-
cludes the following four articles: V. F. Tumel's "Some Features of Resi-
dential Foundation Work in the Northern Regions of the Permafrost Area";
G. 0. Lukin's "Construction and Maintenance of Small Industrial Building
Foundations in the Dudinka Region";?N. I. Saltykov'a "Foundations of Build-
ingsin the City of Yakutsk"; and D. V. Redozubov'a "Laws Governing the Perma-
frost Temperature Field at Vorkuta:" (Abstracts of the articles in English
are included).
2. Works of the Permafrost Institute imeni V. A. Obruchev Vol V, 1947,
"Electrometry and Odometry of Frozen Strata."
This volume deals with problems involved in the use of electrometry
and odometry to determine the thickness,of the permafrost layer. All works
included in this volume-*ere prepared for publication in 1941. This volume
-includes the following works: "Eulogy on A. A. ?etrovskiy, Deceased," by
V. A. Obruchev, L. D. Shevyakov, and A. T. Donabedov; M. I..Sumgin and A. A.
Petrovskiy'a "The Importance of Electrical Methods for the Study of Perma-
frost"; B. N. Dostovalov's "The Electrical Characteristics of Frozen Rocks";
B. S. Enenshteyn's "Results of Electrical Prospecting Using the Direct-Current
Method in Permafrost Regions (includes description of electrical prospecting
