According to the Sachsen Trade Chamber the yield of kiog bristles in Soviet Zone Germany amounted to 100,000 kilograms wince the beginning of 1950. In 1949, 300,000 hogskins were supplied to the leather industry of Soviet Zone Germany. Its mulberry trees and bushes are largely ih a state of decay. of the 65;000 mulberry bushes in Thueringen onl one third are being used for silkworm culture despite the fact ghat.this culture is of great im- portance for the verman economy. Its 700 silk- worm growers plan to quintuple the 400,000 mulberry bushes during the next 5 years. Mecklenburg plans to plant 3 million mulberry bushes and Brandenburg 2.5 million mulberry trees. To further silkworm culture, Thuertngen silkworm growers and. representriiivau of the Jena sericultursl station will visit various places in Thueringen and carry out practical demonstrations of silkworm breeding. Land Brandenburg reported that it had fulfilled its reforestation plan 102 per- cent on 31 May 1950, while Sachsen reported 107 percent fulfillment. Forty percent of the annual quota was reforested during May in the mountainous regions of Sachsen and Thueringen where, because of climatic conditions, forestation is generally carried out liter in the season.
