RAILROAD SCHOOLS BEGIN ENROLLMERT FOR 1950 - 1951 SCHOOL YEAR fflumbers in brackets refer to appended list of sources] The Main Administration of Educational Institutions of the Ministry of Transportation has announced the opening of enrollment in railroad-transport tekhnikums fpecialized secondary technical school] for the 1950 - 1951 school year. The course of instruction is 4 years. The Ministry of Transportation operates an academy [not identified, 13 institutes, 84 tekhnikums L83 of which are identified belo], 152 tech- nical schools and the All-Union Correspondence Tekhnikum of Railroad Trans- port with 40 affiliates in various cities. In those tekhnikums where instruction is not in the Russian language, there is an additional examination in the particular language used. Honor graduates of 7-year schools in 1949 and 1950 are exempt from entrance examinations.N Railroad tekhnikum pupils are provided with the following stipends: for the first year -- 185 rubles; second year -- 2].0 rubles; third year -- 235 rubles; fourth year -- 260 rubles. Pupils who maintain grades of "Excellent" are given stipends 25 percent larger. In addition, pupils are entitled, to the rights of railroad employees, including that of free passage on the railroads of the U"SR./ Space in school dormitories is provided for those pupils especially in need of it, usually pupils who come from out of town. Applications may be presented in person or sent by insured mail to the di- rector of the tekhnikum, and must contain the following documents: certificate of education (in original), birth certificate (in original) or identify card (presented in person), an autobiography, three photographs (bareheaded, 3 by 4 centimeters), record of draft status (for those subject to military service), health record issued by a medical institution, and residence credentials. Entrants must, in addition, take medical examinations prescribed for rail- road workers in various specialties. _/72 Entrance examinations are being given 1 - 20 August, with registration tak- ing place 21 - 25 August.p There is no age limit for entrance into either evening divisions or the All-Union Correspondence Tekhnikum of Railroad Transport. Applicants must work in specialties corresponding or related to the subject chosen for study. Appli- cants must furnish, in addition to the documents required, a letter from their place of employment listing their job duties. ApFlications for admittance into the correspondence tekhnikum may be turned in at educational-consultation points. Instruction in the tekhnikums is to begin on 1 September 1950. 7 Certain of the railroad tekhnikums are also offering 3-year specialized courses for steam-locomotives engineers. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age and have seventh-grade education.
