Lumber production under the plan for the second quarter 1950 has been
improving for the last 2 weeks, but is still lagging seriously in a number
of districts The Nevrokop and Sandanski districts are showing the lowest
figures. In general, the cutting plan for coniferous forests, as of 10 June,
has been fulfilled by 72 6 percent, and the shipping plan by 51 percent; in
deciduous forests the cutting plan has been fulfilled by 82 percent, and ship-
ping to temporary warehouses by 69 percent. However., in the Nevrokop, Plovdiv,
Devin, Dolen Chifllk, and Pesht.era areas, the cutting plan has been fulfilled
only 50 to 60 percent, and the shipping plan by less than 50 percent, while
in the mountain areas of Sandan the shipping plan has not been met by even 30
percent..
Fulfillment of the mine-prop plan has also improved slightly. Cutting
has reached 70 percent and shipping 55 percent, but some areas are still show-
ing much lower figures. The plan for cutting railroad ties has been fulfilled
by 70 percent, and shipping by 65 percent., Telegraph- and telephone-pole cut-
ting has reached 55 percent, and shipping to temporary warehouses 50 percent.
NEW DAM WOULD IRRIGATE 1,750 DECARES -- Izgrev, No 1768, 23 Jun 50
Accord_ng to a resolution of the District Committee of the Bulgarian
Communist Party in Sevlievo, a committee has been established to supervise
the construction of a dam at the outskirts of the village of Petko Slaveykov..
The dam will cover an arel:. of 12 square kilometers and carry a yearly volume
of 700,000 cubic meters of water. Construction work will be done by voluntary
labor contributed by the local population and work brigades of the Dimitrov
Youth Association. The District People's Soviet in Pleven will have to provide
the necessary trucks and equipment, as well as part of the funds.. The new dam
will irrigate 1,750 decares of fertile land.
