DEVELOP NEW MECHANISM?~. REDUCE COSTS - Izgrev, No 1766, 21 Jun 50
Iayers on new, rationalized methods of transporting coal and casting
steel were read at the recent meeting of the Scientific and Technical Asso-
ciation of Dimitrovo.
Technician and efficiency expert Al. Abedzhiev of the Temel.k0 Nenkov
Mine described his "extension hand" for chain conveyers, At prelaent, 14
mechanisms of this new type have already been put into service and. have
saved several million levy of transport costs.
Or. Radev, technician of the grigadir Mine, reported on his method of
loading coal with the new 'lapped shovel-" Although the shovel hap not been
perfected, it ha.= already been used with considerable euccees, especially in
horizontal shafts. By working with the speed shovel, coal diggers have ex-
ceeded their norms by 200 percent, whereas they could reach only 145 percent
under the old system. Likewise, only 20 to 40 one-ton coal carp could be loaded
formerly in one 8-hour shift, while 100 can be loaded with the help of the
speed shovel.
Georgi Bindzhapov, chief supervisor of the Stalin Machine Works, announced
his new system of steel casting in molds. The new method has already replaced
the old in the production of machine parts and is giving excellent results. Thus,
casting oni ton of metal previously required 15 to 20 equarb meters of foundry
floor area, whereas it can now be cast in 3 square meters; and labor productivity
hall reached 250 percent, even for new, unskilled personnel. Quality also has
conside, ably improved, waste has been reduced, and use of additional material for
finishing reduced to a minimum. Furthermore, 50 aercent of the quartz Band is
saved, and tlie'cost of the finished product has been reduced, on the average,
by 3 leva per kilogram.
simu'.taneously on several levels, whereas previously each core ha. to be cast
