TRAt4SFER POWIATS TO NEW WUJEWODZTWOS -- Slowo Powszechne, No 148, 1 Jun 50
The following powiats ere now located in the Pew Koszalin.Wojewodztwo:
Koszalin, Kolobrzeg, Bialogard, Slawno, Slupsk, Bytow, Miastko, Szczecinek,
Drawsko, Walcz, Zlotow, and Czluchow. All were formerly powiats in the Szc-
zecin Wojewodztwo.
The new Opole Wojewodztwo has the following powiats: Opole, Kluczbork,
Olesno, Strzelce, Kozle, Raciborz, Glubczyce, Prudnik, Nysa, Niemodlin, and
Grodkow--all former powiats in the Katowice Wojewodztwo; also Brzeg and Namyy-
slow, former powiats in the Wroclaw Wojewodztwo.
The Czestochowa Powiat has been transferred from the Kielce Wojewodztwo
to the Katowice Wojewodztwo. The city of Czestochowa will be the powiat seat.
The Nowe Miasto PA.aiat from the Bydgoszcz Wojewodztwo and the Dzialdowo
Powiat from the Warsaw Wojewodztwo are to be incorporated into the Olsztyn
Wojewodztwo.
The.Znin Pewiat and the Mogilno Powiat, formerly in the Poznan Wojewodztwo,
have been transferred to the Bydgoszcz Wojewodztwo
Opoczno and Konskie powiats, formerly in the Lodz Wojewodztwo, have been

Zielona Gore Wojewodztwo is composed of .1; powiats: Zielona Gora, Gorzyca,
Strzelce, Skwicrzyna, Sulecin, Miedzyrzecz, Swiebodzin, Rzepin, Babimost, Gubin,
Krosno, Wschowa, Zarr, Zagan, Szprotawa, Kozuchov, and Glogow. The first 12
powiato ::cre forme...y located in the Poznan Wojewodztwo and the last 5 in the
WroclaK Wojewodztwo.
Since Zielona Gora has become the seat of the newly-created Zielona Gora
Wojewodztwo, three major problems have come to the fore.

The first problem is the housing situation. Before the war, the population
of Zi?lons Cora was 26,000; today it is 35,000, Housing plans are now being
worked out to meet the growing demand for new dwellings.
Supplying the city with sufficient vatcr is the next major problem. Zielona
Gore has a definite shortage of water which is especially felt by residents of
upper floors. Water equipment is antiquated, wells are drying out because of im-
proper care and the pressure tower is not properly located. Installation of new
equipment would solve this problem. Since Zielona Cora changed from a powiat
city to a wojewodztwo city, the demand for water has been increasing constantly.
The third major problem is how to overcome the iodine deficiency within the
region.. Every fifth person here suffers from some thyroid g'.and disturbance.
To help arrest the expansion of thyroid gland diseases, iodized salt has been
sent to the area.
