Over.70,000 technical and other plans have been prepared already. In addition to the construction of the combine itself; residences for the combine's 100,000_ workers, engineers, technicians, and their families are being erected, Over 7 million cubic meters of wall must be built to house 100,000 people. The first two-story buildings have already been placed in use. As far as one can see, there are new buildings and apartments. This year, over 5,000 apartments for workers will be completed and put in use. In time, there will be at "Nova Huts," a canal over which vessels will transport coal and iron. SCORES INEFFICIENT TOOL FACTORY MANAGE T -- Gazeta Pomorska, No 165, 17 Jun 50 In order to achieve the production plan, the workers of the Bydgoszcz Tool Factory No 2 must frequently work overtime. Yet the production plans of the fac- tiory ar? not high. With the proper organization of work, these plans should not only be fulfilled bit evon exceeded. Three hundred lathe operators, shock workers, master mechanics, engineers, and party secretaries were present. The Transportation Equipment Enterprises in Gliwice and the Technical Equipment En- terprise in Bytom reported great success. Production at the machine shop at the former enterprise increased 85 percent between December 1949 and March 1950. The Bielsko Textile Machinery Factory sported favorable employee reaction to the high-speed metal cutting. Entineer Wrzozek of Gliwice Metallurical Plant reported that the shape of the cutting tool was closely related to its durability and speed of cutting. Over 65 percent of the failures were caused by defective grinding. The electro- spark method of grinding was introduced at the plant to sharpen cutting tools. The Poreba factory found that cutting tools broke because they were ground on coarse-grained grindirg wheels. The Zawiercie plant recommended the installation of ammeters to overcome workers' fear of overloading the machine.
