COAL ASSOCIATIONS SPUR PRODUCTION
HOPE TO TAP ,RICH BESOURCES SOON -?- Dzienn.ik Polski, No 164, 16 Jun 50
Polish petroleum production in 1945 reached 71 percent of the prewar level.
With the introduction of rationalized work methods, production began to increase
and to approach gradually the prewar figures..
Test drilling has already produced good results. A rich natural gas field
and large deposits have been discovered.. Test drilling is conducted in the Niz
Wielkopolska, Wyzyna Malopolska, and in the Carpathian. Mountain area (erzedgorze
Karpackie). The results obtained so far warrant the belief that the discovery
of rich petroleum Sources is only a matter of time and effort.
In 1946 the Peoples' Democracies in Europe extracted 27,669,000 tons of
crude petroleum, and the rest of Europe 859,000 tons. In 194'( and 1948 the
Peoples' Democracies extracted 31,390,000 and 34,465,000 tons respectively while
all other European countries extracted 946,000 and 1,291,000 tons of crude petro-
leum.
