The "Sonja Marinkovic" State Farm in the Vojvodina has pledged itself to
transform the Vrsacki Ritovi (Vrsac Marshes) into a fertile agricultural area.
In 1947 the first settlement in Vrsacki Ritovi waa. established. Today the
settlement consists of 50 housing projects for workers, six large barns, three
storehouses, three granaries with a capacity of 25 carloads of corn each, and
other auxiliary buildings. The Aettlement can house 100 families this year,
while in 1951 up to 250 families will be able to live here.
A few kilometers from the Vrsacki Ritovi settlement, there is a chicken
farm with a capacity of 20,000 chickens, a pig farm with a present capacity of
3,000 to 5,000 pigs,, and a duck farm with a capacity of 5,000 ducks.
The plans for new drainage canals in this area, designed to carry water
into the Danube-Tisa-Danube Canal, have been drawn up already.
The. area is divided into three state farms, the Vrsacki Ritovi, the Mar-
gitski $1#94;? and?the Vlajkovacki Ritovi. whey will engage chiefly in agri-
culture..and livestock raising.
