Data of the Yangtze River Transport Bureau reveals that t e traffic is export goods rose from 22,648 tons for the February April per~od to 58,757 tons for the May-July period. Import goods traffic rose from 18,232 'tons to 33,442 tons in the correspond- ing period. The above figures cover only goods carried by steamers. A similar rise was registerer? for ,junk. and highway transport. Another index of the increase in movement is remittances for payments. The Chungking branch of the People's Banl: handled 198,600,000,000 yusa of remittances in the first 4 months of the year and 976,300,000,000 yuan during May through Ju]y . . With the slowing down of purchases of industrial raw materials by Th~siland and signs of repletion on the part of mainland buyers, as well as dumping of futures., except for a few indispensable items the >ffirket is stagnant. A ship- ment of sulfide ores ordered by local buyers at 600 Kong Kong dollars per ton is ezpected in port ear]y in October. An order has been placed for German arsenic crystals et 0.92 Kong Kong dollars per pound.
