SPEED BULB ASSEMBLY -- Izvestiya, 17 Jun 50
Lines and revolving tables in the assembly shop of the Lvov Electric Bulb
Plant are now moving 15-20 percent faster, thanks to an innovation by fitter
Viktor Vasil'yev. A brigade can now assemble 2,500-3,000 more bulbs per shift
than previously. By the end of the year he plant should have exceeded its
planned output by hundreds of thousands of bulbs.
HOUSING DELAYED BY LACK OF ELECTRICAL ITEMS -- Izvestiya, 24 Jun 50
The completion of living quarters is frequently delayed because national
and local industry has failed to supply sufficient porcelain fittings for the
electric lighting systems. Insulators, sockets, wire guides, and other fittings
are in short supply.
It is up to the Ministry of Electrical Industry USSR, the Ministry of Local
Industry RSFSR, and the RSFSR Administration of Industrial Cooperatives to see
that builders have adequate quantities of such fittings.
The Kemerovo Machinery Plant has put a new electric motor into series pro-
duction. The motor is designed for use in scraper conveyers, earth loaders, and
other mining machinery. The new motors are more compact than those produced pre-
viously, and are highly efficient.
LENINGRAD AREA GETS CONTROL PANELS FROM ARMENIA -- Kommunist, 5 Jul 50
The Yerevt_n Electrical-Machine-Building Plant is now producing control
panels for rural electric power stations. All parts for the panels, except the
electric measuring instruments, are made at the plant.
The first consianment of these Danels has been sent to power stations in
the Leningrad arrea.

Scientists and engineers of 60 cities of the USSR recently attended a
meeting in Leningrad at which the application of X-ray in industry was dis-
cussed.
Speakers pointed out that Leningrad enterprises have already put X-ray
processes into wide application. They are being used in inspection of welded
seams, and in observing stresses in parts undergoing machining. In addition
to structural inspection, X-rays are used in spectral analysis of metal.
The Vil'nyus El'fa Plant builds electric motors for plants in Vil'nyus,
Kaunas, Shyaulyay, Klaypeda, and many other cities. Other customers include
kolkhozes and sovkhozes of Latvian SSR.
BENDS COLD PIPE -- Leningradskaya Pravda, 10 Jun 50
The Kiev Electrical Machinery Plant has put into production a new type
of pipe-bending machine, in which the pipe is bent without preliminary heat-
ing.
The Moscow Electrical-Machine-Building Plant imeni Vladimir Il'ich has
begun production of generators for rural power stations.
The Riga Machinery Plant has begun series production of portable elec-
tric generators. They are designed for use in logging operations where elec-
tric saws and other power tools are employed.
The Fizelektropribor Plant has produced a Law instrument which measures
voltage and amperage of currents and the resistance of conductors, all with
extreme accuracy. It is designed for use in carrying out complex work in
the construction of radio apparatus.
BEGINS MANUFACTURE OF TRANSFORMERS -- Kommunist, 16 May 50
The Pyatigorskiy Electrical Machinery Plant of Glavsel'elektro (Main
Administration of Agricultural Electrical Equipment) has begun production of
transformers for rural power stations.
