In Cdeaa~, 2.^:?il, Kirovograd, and other oblasts, precipitation amounted to 10-20 and more milli- meters. Kazalchstanskaya Pravda, ~2 Apr 50 Kherson -- The Lower Dnieper region is having heavier downpours than it has had in many years. The water in the dry steppe areas has penetrated deep into the soil. Orer 20 millimeters of rain fell on 9 April. Nal'chik -- Kabardinian ASSR has had heavy rainfall which has thoroughly saturated the soil. As a result, winter crops are growing very well and shoots of spring crops have appeared. Kommuniet, 14 Apr 50 Krasnodar -- Warm, spring rains have fallen in the souther and central regions of Krasnodar Kray. Up to 20 millimeters of rain fell in Aciygey ASSR. Izvestiya, 27 May 50 Dnepropetrovsk -- Warm rains have been pouring down in Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye oblasts. I SECRET Sovetskaya Moldaviye, 37. May 50 After a prolonged period of hot weather, rain fail in Moldavia. The rain began in the northern regions and during the course of 2 days spread through- out the republic. During the night of 30 May, the rain was accompanied by strong wind and thunder. The heaviest precipitation occurred in the central and southern regions. In Tiraspol' and Bendery, it rained 42-47 millimeters; in Leovo and Beltay, 30-34 millimeters; in Komrat and Soroki, 20-22 milli- meters; and in Kishinev, 16 millimeters. Sovetskaya Estoniya, ~ Jun 50 Ashkhabad -- Heavy rains have fallen in the eastern Kopet-Dag regions and over a large area of the. Kara-Kum Desert. On 29 May, 40 millimeters of precipitation fell in Ashkhabad, a rare occurrence for this time of year in Turkmenistan.
