ARSENAL WORKERS HOLD FIRST ASSEMBLY -- Peiping Kung-jen Jih-pao, 10 Jun 50
Peiping,. o June (gain-bus) -- On 8 June-1950, the first delegates assembly
of the China Arsenal Workers Union was called to order by Chao Kuo-ch'iang (1)

delegates from all over China, including arsenal workers, engineers, technicians,
administrative personnel, and union workers, were on hand to determine the activ-
ities of the union, and to elect members to its directing. organ, the Rations]

The first day was highlighted by Li Li-san's speech. He urged all arsenal
workers to concentrate on the study of culture, techniques, and raising^e'quality
and'volume of production so that world peace could be defended and a modern na-
tional defense industry established in China.
Other speakers included Chu Hsueh-fan, vice chairman of the ACFL (All-China
Federation of Labor); Liu Ting and Ho Chang-kung, vice ministers of the Ministry
of Heavy Industry; and Mao Ch'i-hua, vice minister of the Ministry of Labor.

Peiping, 19 Jun (Hsin-hua) -- The first delegates assembly of the China
submitted 357 proposals, decided on the details and methods of union activities;
Techniques and Raising of Quality and Volume of Production,"-and the "Resolu-
tion to Enforce the 8 -Hour Work Day." They also established the National'Com-
mittee and elected the committee's 41 members and 14 alternate members.
Chu Te, vice chairman of the Central People's government, attended the con-
ference and answered questions asked. by the delegates. He urged everyone to con-

The conference also heard Liu Tzu-chiu (2), chief of the Department of Culture
and Education, ACIFL, discuss production duties for 1950, the Trade Union Law,
democratization of factory control, wages, and organization of labor unions.
In the closing address, Chao Kuo-ch$iang, chairman of the Arsenal Workers
Working Cxmuittee, ACFL, asked each delegate to take he with him the spirit of
the conference.
