SET UP NEW FERTILIZER PLANT TO USE NEW PROCESS -- Berlin Taegliche Rundschau, 17 Aug 50 A new phosphorus fertilizer plant is being built in Ruedersdorf near Berlin under the supervision of Dr Schaetzel, National Prize Winner. The plant ntcwwill is supply the agriculture of Brandenburg, Sachsen, land Mecklenburg.. to start in October 1950. Dr Schaetzel's new revolutionary method wi]4 be used in the manufacture of the fertilizer. In this process, potassium salt is added to the crude phosphate at a high temperature instead of the sulfuric acid heretofore necessary. Fer- tilizing experiments at many agricultural experimental institutes have proved the new superphosphate of equal value to other commercial suoerphosphates, and even better results have been achieved with it as a fertilizer for beet fields. Construction of this plant is the first step in raising fertilizer production to reach the Five-Year Plan goal. The new method will result in decreasing the consumption of pyrites, which have to be imported. The old owners of big farms and the local heads of the communities have done everything to discourage new farmers. Many new farmers have been overcharged by private builders because of their lack of experience and the lack of any help or advice for them. In the Wrestenfahnov community in Kreis Westprignitz it has become clear that there was aa..:cious intent on the part of individual private builders and of the LanAbau Ltd.; some of the 62 buildings for new farmers which were started in ioho heve had to be torn down and rebuilt because of bad foundations and poor construction. Many new farmers have not been able to get ahead and others have shown no interest in their farms. Should these new farmers not be able to de- liver their quota or get into diflicul.ties in other respects, then it will be necessary for county counselors to examine their plight and give them every possible help.
