MECHANIZE SIEMIANOWICE COAL MINE -- Katowice Dziennik Zachodni, 4 Jun 50
Although the Siemianowice Mine started to mechanize in the fall of 1949,
satisfactory results were not achieved until March 1950. Machines had been
delivered before that time but there was a shortage of operators and experts
to organize the work. These problems have now bees worked out and production
is improving. While in January 1950, mechanical loaders handled only 1,845
tons of coal, in April the figure reached 4,240 tons. In January, one mechan-
ical loader handled 24 tons of coal and in April, 49 tons. With six cuttings
the Joy loader ought to load 120 tons of coal.
With mechanization, output in the galleries increased from 4.4 tons in
January to 7.4 tons in April, and at the prop wall it increased from 8.8 tons
to 10.7 tons. The extension of galleries increased from 2 meters per shift in
January to 6 meters in April. In January, the machines were operated only on
one shift while at present they operate on 2.06 shifts.
The Siemianowice Mine has one of the first universal cutters in Poland
and a scraper-type conveyor of Polish construction. The cutter, operated by
a three-man crew and an instructor, is movable and can be operated from any
position--- vertical, horizontal, or inclined. It can work 2 meters of a
high gallery in one shift, yielding 40 tons, while it takes two shifts to
work one meter by hand.
Engr Jerzy Kasparek suggested using the cutter also as a loader. After
the coal has been cut and blasted, the blades are replaced with a bucket loader
of domestic construction which moves the coal to the scraper conveyor. Experi-
ments have proved quite' satisfactory.
FACTORIES PLEDGE STEPPED-UP OUTPUT -- Warsaw Rzeczpospolita, 9 Jun 50
The Piotrowice Mining Machine Factory will repair by 22 Ju-W 1950 eight
additional Hopkins-type coal cutters to enable the Ludwik coal mine to mechan-
ize additional coal faces, and to supply Dubiensko and Knurow coal mines with
50 helical gears for drives.
Pledges made by the Rybnik Mining Machine Factory will accelerate mechani-
zation of extraction work in mines.
The Miners' Lamp Factory in Katowice pledged fulfillment of the 1950 plan
for the production of carbide lamps 3 months before the scheduled dale.
The repair shop of the Zabrze Mining Machine Factory pledged completion
of 50 tons of first-aid apparatus above plan by the end of 1950.
