The Leningrad Hoist- and Transport-Equipment Plant has launched series
production of a new gantry crane 45 meters high weighing 120 tons. It is de-
signed for loading operations in ports.
NEW CRANE MODELS COMPETE BEFORE GOING INTO PRODUCTION -- Vechernyaya Moskva,

Experimental models of new cranes are being tested at the All-Union Ex-
hibition of Construction Equipment. Participating in the exhibition are tower
cranes of 0.5-5 tons lifting capacity, the Pioner 5-ton railroad crane, and a
crane-excavator designed for digging ditches and canals. On the basis of per-
formance, the best models will be assigned to plants for series production.
The Kuybyshev Machinery Plant has begun production of a new tower crane which
will be used in construction of high buildings in Leningrad, Moscow, and other
cities.
The crane has a 33-meter tower, and is 45 meters high with the boom raised.
It can lift a weight of 3 tons to a height of 42 meters, making it possible to
furnish building materials to a height of 11 stories. The crane weighs 42 tons.
With the aid of a special mechanism, the entire crane can move, while its
boom sweeps freely about the tower.

The Kherson Port-Equipment Plant imeni Shmidt has built a new loading ma-
chine, the UPM-3. It will perform the work of 30 men.

AUTO PLANT MAKES LOADER Yerevan, Kommun- 16 Jun 50
The Minsk Plant of the Ministry of the Automobile and Tractor Industry has
begun series production of 3-ton loading machines, powered by GAZ-61 motors.

NEW PORTABLE LOADER LIGHTER THAN OLDER MODELS .4oscow, Mekhanizatsiya Stroitel?-

In May 1950, the Dnepropetrovsk Construction-Machinery Plant began series
production of the T-125 portable belt loading machine, designed by the All-Union
Institute for Construction- and Road-Machine Building.. Built largely from stand-
ard units of the older T-80 conveyer, the T-125 is 50 percent lighter than port-
able belt -loaders of the older type.
The conveyer is 5,780 millimeters long, 610 millimeters wide, and weighs 220
kilograms It is powered by a one-kilowatt electric motor, which moves the belt
at 08 meter per second. On tests, it moved 118 tons of goods in one hour on the
horizontal, and moved 81 tons per hour when raised to a 24-degree angle
The belt is of seamless construction, and should last well. This is impor-
tant, as the belt is the costliest and hardest to replace of all parts of a con-
veyer. The designers are going to work on the problem of replacing the present
metal rollers of the T-125 with plastic ones; this should reduce the weight of
the machine another 10 kilograms.
TEST HIGH-SPEED ELEVATOR - Vechernyaya Moskva, 16 Jun 50
The. Moscow Pod'yemnik Plant has completed tests on the first model of a high-
speed elevator. It can rise 20 floors in 25 seconds, attaining a speed of 3.5
meters per second. The plant will put out 32 of these elevators this year.
Participating in the development of the elevator were the Stal?most Plant,
the Krasnyy Blok Plant, the Perovo Machine-Building Plant, Furniture Factory
No 3, the All-Union Scientific Research Institute for L;ft and Transport Ma-
chinery, and other enterprises.
The Krasnyy Metallist Plant is now producing adjustable telphers which are
capable of holding containers of varying sizes. They are of simpler construction
than the old, fixed-size models, and require less metal in their manufacture. They
are easily operated, and. can carry loads up to 2 tons.
These new telphers are now being used in coal mines, metallurgical plantL,
and in the petroleum industry.
The Krasnyy Metallist Plant h..s produced 27 electric telphers in excess-of
the July plan.

its plan, and has begun production of new machines, including heavy power winches.
