THE MARCH-APRIL 1950 SESSIONS OF THE
MOSCOW MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY
J7ollowing are titles of lectures with names of their authors --
interspersed with routine announcements -- as given at the March--
April 1950 sessions of the Moscow Mathematical Society. In the orig-
inal, each lecture is briefly summarized or its place of previous
publication indicated]
14 March 1950 Session
1. In connection with the 60th birthday of B. N. Delone, member of the so-
ciety, the assembly heard the text of the jubilee greeting.
2. V. V. Ryzkov, "Metric Curvature of Various Orders."
3? S. V. Yablonskiy, "Convergent Sequences of Continuous Functions."
4. V. A. Il'in, "Convergence of Bilinear Series of Eigenfunctions?" (In
the solution of many problems of mathematical physics, the important problem
concerning subject convergence of series of he following form is encountered:
sum ui(p)ui(Q)/I? (summed in index i, 0 to infinity) where u and L(lambda) are
a system of eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the wave equation: del2u +-Lu'.= 0
in an arbitrary region G with homogeneous boundary conditions, and p is an ar-
bitrary power.)
21 March 1950 Session
5. Ye. A. Barbashin, "Dispersive Dynamic Systems."
6? The following were prc" osed as candidates: P. S. Aieksandrov, active
member of the Academy of Sciences USSR; I. M. Gellfand, corresponding member of
