HONG KONG RAW MATERTQTR MARKET STRONGER;
BANK OF CHINA AIDS INTERIOR MERCHANTS
The Hong Kong market in industrial raw materials continues to im-
prove. Zinc powder, which is being monopolized by a certain foreign
company, continues to rise in price. Potassium alum crystals, potass-
ium granules, sad soda have risen in pr:._a under the influence of US ex-
port restrictions. All arsenical products, regardless of origin are like-
wise rising.
BANK MANS AVAILABLE FOREIGN-EXCHANGE CERTIFICATES -- Hong Kong, Wen-hui
Pao, 24 Sep 50
The Kwangtung branch of the Baak of China has recently made arrange-
ments Por interior exporters to secure long-term foreign-exchange certifi-
cates through the local branches of the bank in the places where they live.
~:`~ This obviates the necessity for those firms which have no representative
is Canton to go to that city to make arrangements for such certificates.
The arrangement whereby goods from North Chins passing through Hong
Kong to South China might enter the mainland duty free has been discon-
tinued since early this month. The reason given is that land transport
has now been restored so that domestic goods may move over inland routes.
US BRISTLES DEMAND UP -- Hong Kong, Wen-hui Pao, 15 Sep 50
New Xork demand for hog bristles has brought advances in ?the prices
of this commodity on the Hong Kong market. The reasons given 1'or the
rise are the limited quantity of Chinese bristles recently passing through
Hong Kong and a?brisk demand on New York stocks by European buyers.
