NEW MECRANISM CONVERTS LOOMS TO AUTOMATIC OPERATION -- Leningradskaya

The Leningrad Rabotnitsa Jute-spinning Mill, which had been using
antiquated textile-machinery for many years, was assisted by the textile-
machinery laboratory of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in converting
its looms to automatic operation by the use of special mechanisms. As a
result, labor productivity has increased 100 percent.
The task has proved so successful that the director of the laboratory
has contacted the Ministry of Light Industry. He visited Tula, Orsha, and
Kazan', and made plans for installing automatic mechanisms in weaving en-
terprises in these places. The automatic mechanism "Leningrad" has already
been installed in the weaving shops of the Orsha Combine.
The Rabotnitsa Mill is the first in the Jute-hemp industry to use a
lamellar instrument, which was designed at the plant.
DEVELOP NEW FLAX-SWINGLING MACHINE -- Tallin, Sovetskaya Estoniya; 11 Aug 50
The All-Union Scientific Research Institute for Flax has developed the
TL-40 flax-swingling machine for getting long flaxen fibers from the kneaded
chaff.
In productivity and performance, the TL-40 greatly surpasses other ma-
chines which have been used for this purpose. Labor consumption for the
production of one ton of long fiber is 6 times lee; than in hand processed
chaff, and ll times less than in mechanisms of older design. Productivity
of the new aggregate is 25-80 kilograms of flaxen fiber per hour.

MAKE TEXTILE-MACHINE PARTS IN RECORD TINE -- Moscow, Vechernyaya Moskva,

Workers at the Moscow Presnenskiy Machine-Building Plant have pledged
greater achievements. In the tool shop all the parts for a hackling ma-
chine were made in 7 days, and equipment for a spinning machine in 6. The
casters, molders, and assemblers are also doing good work. The plant as
a whole is accomplishing a great deal of above-plan production.
ORGANIZE LOCAL PLANT COUNCILS TO BETTER PRODUCTION -- Leningradskaya
Pravda, 11 Aug 50
Last spring a Stakhanovite ~council was organized at the Leningrad
Plant imeni Vtoraya Pyatiletka f- paper-machinery plan, which has al-
ready made many contributions toward improving production. At the sug-
gestion of the council, multiple cutting of rulberized rollers, pre-
viously done by planing machine, is now done on lathes. This process
has increased labor productivity and improved the quality of the items.
The council has been so successful that similar groups have been organ-
ized at other Leningrad enterprises.

INTRODUCE AUTOMATIC PRESSES -- Leningradskaya Pravda, 19 Aug 50
The Leningrad branch of the Scientific Research Institute of Textile-
and Light-Machine Building has designed an automatic press for hot vulcani-
zation of footwear. The first consignment of these presses is being prod-
uced at the Leningrad Plant imeni Engel's.
