THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION FIRST DOMESTIC COTTON SHIPMENT MADE SHIPMENT ARRIVES AT UJPEST PLANT -- Budapest, Kis Ujsag, 4 Oct 50 The first domes'_c cotton shipment was delivered to the Ujpest plant of the Hungarian Cotton Industry on 3 October. The cotton this year is of con- siderably higher quality than last year's experimental crop. Approximately 100 cars of cotton were harvested from 10,000 acres. The cotton acreage is expected to increase five times next year. The bounty crop will bring good returns to cotton growers. It is expected that 30 percent of the country's needs will be grown domestically by 1954? LORINC SPINNING MILL RUNS 3 DAYS ON RECOVERED MATERIAL -- Budapest, Kis Ujsag, 5 Oct 50 In the course of a widespread material conservation drive in the textile industry, a machine was modified at the Lorinc Spinning Mills to permit the re-use of waste material, thus saving 450 kilograms of material per day. As a result of this and other innovations, the entire mill was able to operate an equivalent of 3~ days in August solely on material conserved. TEXTILE SALES INCREASE -- Budapest, Kis Ujsag, 3 Oct 50 More and better quality textiles are being sold this year. Sales of woven goods between 1 January and 30 September showed a 24-percent increase over the same period last year. While the sale of high-quality woolens increased 60 percent, the sale of low-priced cotton articles decreased. Sales of high-quality stockings increased 35 percent over last year, and of fine silk stockings 15 per- cent. There was a sharp decrease in the sale of cheap stockings and socks. The textile industry has ad.pted itself to the increased buying power of the worker. This fall, there are 50 styles of pullovers and cardigans in 16 different colors on the market, and all these items are of better quality and durability than those available last year. The price of children's woven goods was reduced 20 percent, and a;, a result the sale of these articles increased greatly in the provinces.
