Prospecting for coal in the Senj-Reeava basin under the leadership of
Engineer Tancic led to the conclusion that the D~inls reeerves amount to at
least 30 million tons of brown coal with a calorific value of 4,500 calories.
At present the production of ali coal mines in the Senj-F.esava basin amount
to two fifths of +,he tota.l brown-coal production in Serbia.
Coal mines are being opened this year on Djula Mountain and in the Vodna-
Strmostek basin The reserves of the latter are estimated at over 5 million
tonsa
Transportation facilities in the Senj-Resava basin are inadequate. The
Ravna Reka mine is connected with the Senj mine by means of a narrow-gauge
railroad. There is no road or industriasl railroad between the Resava mine and
the Ravna Reka mine. A 12-kilometer read is being built between the two mines
at present, In 1951 the Resava mine will be connected bye standard-gauge line
with the main Belgrade-Nis line through Despotovac, Svilajnac, and Markovac.
Thus far, 40 kilometers of the 60-kilometer Despotovac-Resavica line have been
completed, By the end of 1951 the entire railroed line will be completed and
an express train will be able to cover the distance from Belgrade to Resava is
3 hours.
TURBINES, GENERATORS INSTALLED -- Ljubljana, Slovenski Porocevalec, 31 Oct 50
Recently the turbines and generators were installed in the hydroelectric
power plant at Pesocani rear Ohrid. The plant, which will have a capacity of
2,080 horsepower and will be connected by means of power lines with thermal
power plants in Bitolj, Prilep, and Ohrid, will be completed before the end of
1950.
In addition to this plant, the plant at Lapuncica near Bitolj and 130 kilo-
meters of power lines in Bitolj Oblast xill be completed this year.
