COMBINE GETS WEAVING, SPINNING MACHINES -- Tallin, Sovetskaya Estoniya, 20 Aug 50
The bright and airy shops of the newly restored Baltiyskaya Manufaktura Com-
bine are provided with first-grade Soviet equipment. Recently we received 200 more
automatic weaving machines from the Klimovsk Plant. This equipment is highly pro-
ductive and surpasses all other existing makes. With the usual machines, much time
is consumed in loading and changing the shuttle. In the new machines, these opera-
tions are done automatically. Workers do not have to watch. for broken threads, for
the looms stop automatically.
Assembly and installation of the new equipment is in full swing. In the weav-
ing shop, the pouring of concrete foundations for the looms is being completed. This
equipment will produce tens of thousands of meters of high-quality' fabric every day.
Spinning equipment is also being supplemented at the combine. Workers are achiev-
ing high productivity on machines from the Leningrad Plant imeni Karl Marx. The ad-
vantage of these machines in comparison with all foreign makes is enormous. The tech-
nological process of spinning is complex. The cotton proceeds from scutching machine
to carding machine to speeder to spinning machine. The new equipment has a high draw-
ing capacity, which speeds up the production process several times and makes it possi-
ble to put out hundreds of kilograms more yarn per day. Output will increase still
more after the'-installation of 50 new spinning machines. Word has recently come from
Tashkent that a few dozen more of these machines are arriving.
The new Soviet techniques require highly skilled workers; therefore, the combine
has paid special attention to the training of personnel. The two best workers. learned
a great deal by visiting the leading textile enterprises in the country. They were the
first to initiate the policy of operating 12 looms simultaneously, and their example
was followed by others at the combine.
There are many technical study groups working at the combine. Members of the
textile section of the republic Engineering-Technical Society are participating in
the work of these groups, and lectures are given by textile specialists. -- A. Ser-
geyev, Engineer of the Baltiyskaya Manufaktura Combine

DEVELOP NEW KNITTING, LEATHER MACHINERY -- Leningradskaya Pravda, 31 Aug 50
The Leningrad Plant imeni Engels, in collaboration with the Scientific Re-
search Institute of Light and Textile-Machine Building, is putting out new im-
proved machines for knitting mills and shoe factories.
Series output of new highly productive knitting machines will begin in Sep-
tember and October. By this time, an experimental model of a single-process, single-
strip cotton machine will be ready. This is intended to replace the existing cumber-
some and complicated types. Next year the plant will put out the first series of
the new machines.
A looping machine is being modernized. Designers are trying to eliminate the
failings of the old mechanisms, such as extreme complexity, difficulty of adjust-
ment tend maintenance, and poor-quality work on fine-count semifabricated goods.
This machine will go into series production after 1 January 1951.
Next year the shoe industry in Leningrad will get two new aggregates from the
Plant imeni Engel's. By the end of the third or the beginning of the fourth quarter,
:in experimental model of a high-speed machine for stitching soles and sewing them on
;o shoes will be ready. The other machine is a compact new press aggregate for hot
vulcanization of footwear. The new shoe machines will increase labor productivity
40 percent.
PLANT RECEIVES NEW LOOMS -- Leningradskaya Pravda, 2 Sep 50
The Leningrad Rabochiy Mill is receiving new automatic ATK-100 looms developed
by the Soviet designer G. I. Kananin. The enterprise sent a letter to the Scientific
Research Institute of Textile-Machine Building, where Kananin had worked before his
death in 1947. This letter stated that the ATK-100 is the.best automatic loom in
the world, surpassing the American Northrop, which has received such high praise.
The machine is simpler, lighter, and more convenient to operate than those of other
designs,
TO PRODUCE NEW TEXTILE MACHINERY -- Vechernyaya Moskva, 2 Sep 50
The Moscow Presnenskiy Machine-Building Plant will put out new textile machinery
in honor of the 33rd Anniversary of the October Revolution. This will include a spin-
ning machine, a napping frame, and a polishing aggregate.
