STARTS PRODUCTION OF SLIP-RING ROTOR MOTORS -- Berlin, Nachrichten fuer
Aussenhandel, 30 Sep 50
The people-owned Electric Motor Plant in Wernigerode, which at present
employs 2,1+30 workers as compared to 450 in 1947, has started production of
slip-ring rotor motors. These motors consume less electricity than the cus-
tomary short-circuit rotor motors.
PERLON HOSIERY YARN, FACTORY STARTS OPERATION -- Plauen, Freie 2resse, 18 Oct 50
The new Perlon Hosiery Yarn Factory, which belongs to the Wilhelm Pieck
Thueringen Synthetic Fibers Plant in Schwarza, started operation on 15 October
1950. Dr Correns, a National Prize Winner, is the factory manager, and Dr Klare
is chief chemist. The Perlon factory employs 500 women, most of them new set-
tlers.
SURPASSES PREWAR PRODUCTION OF CARBON BLACK -- Berlin, Tae'gliche Rundschau,

The people-owned Hydrocarbon Plant in Blankenburg, operating on three shifts,
produces 1,200 kilograms of carbon black per day. The carbon black is used for
the manufacture of flashlight batteries and galvanic elements, and in the dye and
lacquer industry. It is also. an important basic materiel in tire od;uction.

According to Weiss, head of the Department for the East Gelman Sugar Industry,
sugar production for the German Democratic Republic is estimated to amount to
700,000 tons of refined sugar in 1950-51.

The Five-Year Plan provides that refined sugar production be increased
to 880,000 tons in 1955. However, this will be possible only if the capacity
for sugar production can be greatly increased. Investments for the sugar in-
dustry will amount to 11 million Deutsche marks in 1951. Two new sugar re-
fineries are to be established in Sachsen-Anhalt and Mecklenburg by 1955. In
addition, it is planned to convert most of the raw sugar factories into fac-
tories for refined sugar.
SPINNING MILL BUYS EQUIPMENT -- Berlin, Nachrichten fuer Aussenhandel, 23 Sep 50
The people-owned Pirna Spinning Mill placed an order for 16,500 spinning
pot drives, used in the production of artificial silk, with the union for metal-
processing workshops in the Niesky, Weisswasser, and Goerlitz Kreise (district).
The order amounts to 2 million Deutsche marks, and 6,500 of the spinning pot
drives will be delivered in 1950.
FELT FACTORY TO INCREASE PRODUCTION -- Berlin, Nachrichten fuer Aussenhandel,

The people-owned Felt Factory in Berlin-Adlershof plans to double its felt
production. At present, the factory produces 23 tons of fulled and 4+7 tons of
unfulled felt per month. The felt is used for industrial purposes and shoe man-
ufacture, and also in the manufacture of garments.
TO PRODUCE CHEAP TV SETS IN 1952 -- Stockholm, Morgon Tidningen, 7 Nov 50
The Communist government of East Germany will, by 1952 at the latest, put
a cheap, standard television receiver on the market. The sets will cost not
more than 600 East marks.
