DEVELOP CINEMATIC EG'y'IPMENT PRECISION INSTRUMENTS IMPROVE MOTION PICTURE PROJECTORS -- Leningradskaya Pravda, 10 Sep 50 Usually, after a film is shown, a small piece of illuminating carbon remains in the projecting apparatus. The innovators have now developed a special holder which makes it possible to utilize all the carbon. As a re- sult, movie projector operators in Leningrad theaters have recently shown films several hundred times using the carbon saved by the new invention. The holder was worked out by the technical director of the Ara Theater. The technical director of the Oktyabrt Theater has replaced the bush- ings of the horizontal rolls of the projector with ball bearings. This has lessened wear and tear on the film, improved the work of the apparatus, and lengthened the period of service of the parts. Another innovations proposed by the technical director of the ITovie theater at the communications workers' Palace of Culture eliminates the glass in the window of the projector chamber. This improves the quality of the pro- jection. _ DEVELOPS NEW TYPES OF MEASURING INSTRUMENTS -- Moskovskaya Pravda, .'2 Sep 50 In honor of the anniversary of the October Revolution, the Moscow Manometer Plant will produce 23,000 manometers, 24 instruments for measuring metal hard- ness, and 160 oil presses above the plan. Complex mechaniza- tion of the entire production process has been carried out. Every operation in the production of electrical panel measuring instruments proceeds at uniform tempo, and all shops and sections are on an hourly schedule. For several suc- cessive quarters the plant has held first place in the all-Union socialist com- petition of plants of the Ministry of Machine and Instrument Building. At the beginning of 1950 the assembly and procurement-assembly shops were a..o? +hn title of'Stakhanovite. Now all the basic shops have earned this title. DEVELOPS MAGNETOPHONE -- Moscow, Vechernyaya Moskva, 2 Sep 50 The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet Ukrainlan.SSR has rewarded a large group of Stakhanovites and engineering-technical personnel at the Kiev Machin- ery Plant for the development and production of the Dnepr magnetophone. REQUIRES EXCESSIVE PAYMENTS FOR REPAIRS -- Minsk, Sovetskaya Belorussiya, 22 Aug 50 The Belorussian Trust of Glavmuka (Main Administration of F1.ur) uses many measuring instruments which have to be repaired from time to-time. However, the cost of repairing them often exceeds their original cost. The central scales- repair workshops of Belmetallotrest (Belorussian Metal Trust) do not check in detail the stages of wear of the instruments, nor do they make distinctions be- tween different types of repairs required. Accounts are made out in accordance with the tariffs for capital and medium repairs, which do not always, by any means, correspond with the actual repairs. Thus, 816 rubles was paid on account No 5216 for the repair of analytical balances delivered to the workshops on 7 August by the central laboratory of the Glavmuka Trust. This amount exceeded the original cost of the balances at this tis . The central scales-repair workshops of Belmetallotrest should see to it that its charges strictly correspond with the actual repairs done. -- D.
