He retained both positions even when, on the order of the ministry of the Interior, the name "Vasas'ITT.Bad to be changed and the soccer club was forced to become a social association. At the end of 1946, Hegyi played the club into the hands of the Communists, at an election meeting and the "Vasas" has been a leading Com- munist association sice 1947. This act paved the way forHegyi to rjoil the Communist Party, and he later became director of the National Sport Office with the rank of state secretary. Gyula Hegyi's elder brother, Imre Hegyi was relieved of this position during ',thsa course of the social democratic purges. However, she was released by the party after 2 days detention and continues her party activi- ties as the vice-president of Vacz chapter and member of the national board of presidents of MSZT (Hungarian Soviet Society). Since he was not inclined to give his land to the kolkhaz, the local party organization began to harass him threaten him, with imprisammmt. However, he was put up for election by the party in 1950 to show that "the independent peasant is with us, too."
