Kolkhozes exceeded the plan Yor sowing winter crops. Throughout the year, kolkhozes were given a tremendous amount of aid by tractors, combines, and other agricultural equipment. In 1950, 17 new machine-tractor and Yive machine-development stations ~,rere organized in the republic. The supply of mineral fertilizers and fuel to the republic's agriculture increased over 19+9? In 1950, substantial funds for capital construction were allocated to the e?rpansion oY the shale mining and processing industry, timber sad paper indus- try, light, meat and dairy, food, local, and other industries, to the construc- tion of new electric power stations, and to.housing and cultural needs. During the year, projects providing additional capacity were put into service in the shale processing, light, and local industries, into communal economy, and into other branches of the republic's economy. Individual trading organi- zations fulfilled the plan as follows: Percent Trade Enterprises Sale of the following items in state and cooperative trading organiza- tions increased over 1949: meat products -- 74 percent; fate -- more than 3.7 times; dairy products -- 124 percent; sugar -- 19 percent; confectionery -- 18 percent; woolen fabric -- 11 percent; garments -- 53 percent; leather foot- wear =- 43 percent; rubber footwear -- 83 percent. 'In 1950, the import to city markets of agricultural products, particu- larly meat, milk, eggs, and others, increased over 1949 and there was a fur- ther decrease in prices on agricultural products. In 1950, substantial gains were made in construction Por cultural needs and in increasing the cultural level of the ;,rorkero. The number of et~waents completing secondary schools increased in 1950 by 6 percent over 1949. In 1950, the number. of students .in technical schools and other secondary special training institutions increased 4 percent over 1949. At the end of 1950, 3 percent more students were enrolled in higher educational institutions than in 1949.
