The Minister of Agriculture -- in agreement of the Agronomic Research
Institute of the R~nie*_ People's Republic -- on the basis of the experiments

Institute, has drawn up the Map of Natural Sowing Zones ~ppended7 and has es-
tablished the optimum sowing periods for each separate zone and the order of
planting the trope.
There are three sowing periods. The first period has txo priorities:
Priority 1 which is to be done at the first eppearrAa~e of spring; and Priority
2 which is to be done as indicated.
First Sowing Period -- Priority 1
Zone 1 -- Spring wheat, barley, poppy, pens, vetch, mustard, rapeseed, oats,
lucerne, and clover.
Zone 2 -- Spring wheat, barley, poppy, peas, soinfoin, vetch, mustard,
rapeseed, oats, lucerne, and clover.
Zone 3 -- Spring wheat, barley, poppy, pea3, vetch, rspeseed, oats, lucerne,
and clover.
Zone 4 -- Spring wheat, barley, poppy, Peas, vetch, mustard, rapeseed, oats,
lucerne, and clover.
Zene 5 -- Spring wheat, barley, poppy, vetch, mustard, oats, and clover.
Zone 6 -- Spring wheat, barley, vetch, oats, and clover.
First 3_ottin8 Period -- Priority 2
Zone 1?-- Between 10 March and 1 April: sunflower, flax, hemp, sugsrbeets,
sad potatoes.

Zone 3 -- Between 15 March and 15 April: sunflower, flax, lentils, hemp,

augarbeets, and potatces.
Zone 5 -- Between 25 March and 15 April: sunflower, flax, hemp, sugar-

Second Sowing Period
Zone 1 -- Between 1 aad 30 April: corn, beans, soybeans, Yoxtail millet,
and sorghum.
Zone 2 -- Batwecn 1 and 25 April: corn, beans, soybeans, proeo, sorghum,
Sudan grans, and castor oil.
Zone 3 -- Between 15 April and 1 May: corn, beans, soybeans, proso, (oxtail
millet, and sorghum.
Zone 4 -- Between 10 April and 1 May: corn, beabs, soybeans, proso, (oxtail
millet, aad sorghum.

Third Sowing Period

Zone 1 -- Between 1 May and 10 May: melons, puai+kina, rice, and cotton,
Zone 2 -- Between 25 April and 10 May: melons, pumpkins, rice, and cotton.
Zone 3 -- Between 1 May aad 10 May: melons and pumpkins.
Zone 4 -- Between 1 May sad 10 May: melons, pumpkins, and rice.
Oernxal Observations
1. Priority 1 of the First Sowing Period is determined by the appezrance
of spring, which may be earlier or later. Priority 1 begins on the first good
workday, which is announced by telephone to the Minie;.er. If eprirg is late,
Priority 2 and Priority 1 may overlap; that is, the crops of Priority 1 will be
planted at the time scheduled for those of Priority 2. The crops of Priority
2 will be planted immediately after thane of Priority 1. Crops ~f Priority 2
need a soil temperature of 2 to 4 degrees centigrade.
2. The planting of corn is the Second Sowing Period is determined by the
soil temperature, which moat be 8 degrees centigrade for 4 or 5 Sys before
planting.
~ 3. In the Third Sowing Period, the soil temperatures moat be 12 to l~
degrees centigrade far cotton and rice, and the, water temperature 12 degrees
centigrade for rice. In no cane should cotton or rice be planted before 20
April, even if the soil and water temperatures are higher.
