A recent study of elementary- and secondary-school education in Maribor
showed t?iat the grades of elementary school students are much better now
than in previaue years, but that more gymnasium students,are failing now.
then ever before Of 5,364 pupils in the four grades of elementary school,
83 percent passed at the end of the first semester. City elementary schools
showed better .results than country elementary schools.
'ibis year, Maribor gymnasiums had an enrollment,of 2,841 students, of
whom only 1,551 passed at the end of the first semester, ':he poorest re-
sults were recorded in the first attd second classes oP the $ymnasiums. The
7-year schools, which a.re attached to lower gymnasiums, have same etuderts
who attend classes only to fulfill the 8~?;ear schooling requirement, The
eighth class of the Maribor gymnasiums, which have a total of 100 prospeC~
tive graduates, has also recorded poo_** results. '

The Gentral Committee of the Workers' General Trade Union has directed
the ertabllshment of Red Corners in every industrial enterprise, They will
consist of educational courses conducted under the-a?spices oP the. trade
unions and will operate in a large room or hall. Large enterprises may
establish Red Corners in every plant or department.
?rhP ntmitrov Youth Association will cooperate actively in the work of
the new educational cen';ers.

movement is in full swing throughout Sofia Okoliys, However, the Okoliya Com-
mittee is not actively supporting the local organizations in their campaign
activities, This-failure should be corrected immediately.
