CLASSIFICAT',ON CONFllENTIAL THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION An American general has been placed ad acta. In a brief statement of some ten sentences, set off by a few polite phrases, President Truman announced on Wednesday morning that he had relieved of his functions Douglas MacArthur, Su- preme Commander of the Imperialist Armies of Aggression in Korea, and US Pro- consul in the Far East. MacArthur's dismissal is nothing but an out-and-out admission of the in- terventionists' failure in Korea. The U'3 imperialists have made the General their scapegoat, in the hope that by so doing they might restore their lost pres- tige. From time to time MacArthur used to grant interviews and issue statements which invariably gave away something of the imperialists' plans in the Far East. His most recent declaration, in which he openly threatened to extend the Korean conflict to China, unleashed a worldwide storm of public protest. These pro- tests were particularly heated in countries whose governments are engaged i9 armed intervention against the Korean people. They finally broke the neck of this butcher of men in the uniform of a General of the Army. Seen in this light, General MacArthur's dismissal must be credited as an achievement of the great Movement for World Peace. In November 1950, the Second World Peale Congress in Warsaw, in its message to the UN, demanded an investiga- tion of the crimes committed in Korea, and of MacArthur's responsibility for these crimes. The worldwide appeal of the Fighters for Peace to expose those who were truly responsible for the Korean War has come to bear fruit. Let no one be deluded, however, that, now that MacArthur has been dismissed, Washington will follow a policy of peace. President Truman's official act was nothing but a poorly disguised attempt to divert attention, to create a screen behind which Washington could cover up its plans. His name is General Ridgeway. He is reputed to be an experienced strategist, but that won't do him much good. Stalin, in an interview with Pravda, pointed out the inevita- bility of the interventionists' defeat in Korea. He said: "It is understand- able that the most experienced generals and officers may suffer defeat if their men believe the war to which they have been subjected to be unjust in the ex treme, and if, therefore, they carry out their military assignments formalistic- ally and without enthusiasm, without faith in the justification of their mis- The removal of MacArthur, the war criminal, will encourage the peace-loving forces of the people in their struggle. However, to quote Harry Pollitt, sec- retary general of the Communist Party in England, these forces must do all in their power to prevent a continuation of the gangster general's policies by dif- ferent methods. Now is the time to reinforce the Peace Front. The world is still full of MacArthurs. One of them is called Eisenhower and functions as chief of the Atlantic Pact Army of Aggression in Europe. 50X1-HUM CifFEQENT1111 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/10/19: CIA-RDP80-00809A000600390271-8
