LOWER FOOD PRICES IN BELGRADE
MEATS,' VEGETABLES LOWERED -- Belgrade, Politika, 17 Mar 51
The Commission of Trade and Supply in Belgrade ruled on 16 March that sell-
ing prices of agricultural products in state and farm-work-cooperative markets
Lin Belgradej7 will be reduced. prices of fresh and smoK--d meat are reduced from
20 to 30 percent; lard is 20 dinars less5.per kilogram. ?A kilogram of sausage
will now cost 300 dinars, lard and table oil 380 dinars, smoked sausage 250 din-
ars, etc, Prices of vegetables are also lower, A kilogram of,.potatoes 16 .35
dinars', a rope of black /ic?onions 8 dinars, etc. Vegetablei prices are, of i
course, temporary, for all markets are showing a tendency toward a rapid decline
.in vegetable prices. For instance, the price of a kliogram of spinach has al-
ready fallen to 25 dinars.
No decree has been issued regarding fish, but this gwdion is to be studied.
The commission decided that great differences exist between the selling prices of
fish in various markets and that today's fish prices are excessively high. The
"Belie" Farm sells etuxgeon at 150 dinars per kilogram. The director of the "Belie"
Fish Enterpri- considers that the price of sturgeon could be reduced to 72 din-
ars per kilogram. However, the price of sturgeon in the markets of the municipal
fish enterprises in Belgrade is 300 dinars,, and the price of carp is 200 dinars.
