THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION EXPAND ALBAN-.SAN TRANSPORTATION NEPWORK On 21 De.:ember? 1950, the Pegin-Elbasan railroad was inaugurated. It is the Fourth railroad constructed by Albanian youth. With this line, 35.3 kilometers of n.ew railroad have now been added to the Albanian trans- portation network. A total ?oP 26,863 young people worked on the project. Thanks to the Two-Year Plan snd the aid oP the USSR, many automobile roads and railroads have been constructed. The most important railroad is the Kashar Industrial Zane railroad, which Joins the Stalin textile region with Duryea. To build this 7-kilometer railroad, 1,923 young men and women worked voluntarily. By this railroad the important Staling tex- tile region can be continuously supplied with raw materials: The government is now plarning to build new local and rational roads, es well as to improve existing ones. During 1949 - 1950, 30.885 kilometers of this type of road were opened, not including the 8.4-kilometer Tepelene-MemaliaJ rood, the 13-kilometer Shemeri-KolgecaJ road,~an4 manybthers. Many roads were im- proved in the Patos region, Joining that center with producing areas. Besides the construction of new roads, special attention has been paid to the improvement and care o~ national roads which had been badly damaged by heavy traffic. For this reason, the streets of the larger cities, such as Tirana, Durres, Valona, etc., have been surfaced with two layers oP asphalt, as have the highways that connect these cities. The total area of resurfacing was 774,000 square meters. During the same 'period, 2,400 kilometers cP other roads were surfaced, Por which more-than 132 million lek were spent. During the Two-Year Flan period, 285,292,000 lek have been r3pent Por road building.
