THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION WILL CONSTRUCT POWER PLANTS, DAMS TO UTILIZE HYDROELECTRIC POWER -- Berlin, Nachrichten fuer A.ussen_hsndel, 28 Feb 51 Soviet experts will assist the Bulgarian government in implementing an ex- tensive plan for the construction of .reservoi.zs and hydroelectric power plants. Domestic materials will be used predominantly in the building of reservoir dams. Many high-capacity pumps of Soviet make, with a connecting power line of 1,000- 2,500 kilowatts, have been installed along the Danube to faH-ilitate irrigation of wide stretches of land. Additional pumping stations are under construction for irrigation of the Bela Vit River Valley and the areas near Kozloduy, Kara'B.ogaz, and Aidenur. RECEIVES POWER PLANT. FROM USSR. -- Berltn., Nachxi.chten fuer Ausseghandel, 3 Feb 51 The 1950 output of Bulgaria's electric power plants exceeded the combined output for the years 1933 through 1937. In 1950 the USSR furnished the equipment for three large power plants with ten 'turbogenerator units and several pumping stations for irrigating extensive areas along the Danube. Equipment for 16 smaller power plants, valued at 250 million leva, wAs also furnished. Construction materials for the installation of new electric power plants and dams are to be shipped to Bulgaria on a large scale. TO CONSTRUCT NEW DAM -- Berlin; Nachrichten fuer Aussenhandel, 20 Jan 51 A new dam is to be built on the Iskur River near Sofia. The dam will provide a reservoir of 670 million cubic meters.. Its power unit will have an available hec- capacity of 67,000 kilowatts. It will also be utilized to irrigate 57,000 tares of land. The project is schedules to be completed in 1955.
