GOVERNMENT CONTROLS CREATE CONSUMERS' GOODS SRORTAGES -- Rome, Bollettino Danu-
biano, 29 Jan 51 - "
The Polish government, acting on Marshal Rokossovskiy's demand, has tightened
its control over essential raw materials necessary for war industry, beginning
15 January 1951. All available stocks 'of iron and cement have been frozen and
placed at the disposal of the General Staff of the Army.
The rations of liquid fuels have been reduced to a minimum; this applies
also to vehicles used by government offices. The disappearance of many common
hardware items from the stores and the reduction of consumers' goods distributed
to the workers on ration cards has also been noted. Almost nothing can be ob-
tained in so-called free stores run by the government, even for the high prices
established by the Ministry of Trade.
