This report consists of excerpts from two newspaper articles describing the creation, membership, anti first meeting of the new Academy of Sciences Tadzhik SSR, succeeec_' to the Tadzhik Affiliate, Academy of Sciences USSR. In accordance with a 9 October 1950 resolution of the Council of ministers USSR on the organization of the Academy of Sciences Tadzhik SSR, the Presidium, Supreme Soviet Tadzhik SSR, the Council of Ministers 2'adzhik SSR, and the TaK KP(b) of Tadzhikistan herewith: 1. Organize the Academy of Sciences Tadzhik SSR on the foundations of the former Tadzhik Affiliate of the Academy of Sciences USSR. 2. There will also be a plenary meeting at the session. (1) The organization of the Academy of Sciences Tadzhik SSR is being hailed in lay circles as well as in scientific circles. The city of Stalinabad has taken on a festive air. The buildings and streets are decked with bunting. Many of the libraries are organizing special exhibits to show the development of science in the republic. Students and common laborers are holding meetings to commemorate the occasion. Special excursions have been organized for the visiting digni- taries. Among the points of interest which they will view will be the Mountain- Botanical Station, the Stalinabad Botanical Gardens, the Kray Studies Museum, and the Seismic Station at the Tadzhik State University, and the Kolkhoz imeni Stalin.
