CHINESE SCIENTIST DEVELOPS
PHOTOGRAPHIC EMULSION. FOR COLOR MAP REPRODUCTION
Nanking -- Comrade Kao Fu-hsiang of the Geographical Research Bureau,
China Academy of Sciences, has announced the successful development of a
panchromatic emulsion sufficiently sensitive to the full spectrum to he of
invaluable use in the color reproduction of maps. The emulsion consists
of silver bromide, silver iodide, silver chloride, and silver nitrate, in
a collodion base. Although Kao's experiment as a whole is considered basi-
cally successful, the. registration of gray and black tones remains some.-,hat
unsatisfactory with this emulsion. The application of this emulsion in
cartographic reproduct:I.cr1will mean a reduction, to several hours, of the
process, which formerly required the services of one person for approximately
23 days, and a saving of 90 percent in expense.
[K-ao's development is presumably a black-and-white emulsion for use in
some color-separation process)
