Prof Dr Kurt Schroeder co-director of the Research Institute for Mathematics at the Gensan Aca emy o Sciences and professor of applied mathe- matics at Humboldt University, whe is at present carrying on intensive research in seientiflc lsbor-saving methods, for practical application in industry and science. Prof Dr Walter Grotrian ~~ National Prize winner and director of the astrophysical laboratory of the German Acadeary of Scieacee, who has distinguished himself with his important publications on the graph-:c prAaentation of the spectra of atoms and ions. Professor Grotrian has been charged by the Academe of Sciences with the coordination of all astron~m?^_al research carried on in the GDR. Prof Dr Eduard Maurer National Prize winner and the first metal- lurgist to be elected to full membership in the German Academy of 9ci.ence~. Professor Maux:r has done intensive research in confection with the development of steel production in the GDR. He is larged responsible far the invention of rust-proof steel and for the qualitative improvement of Eaet German steel. Hie research findings have made it. possible to lover the sulfur and phosphorus content of steel. Under his direction the institute has developed a process for the manufacture of triacetate silk, vhich hoe been turned over to the Ministry for Heavy Industry. At present, Dr Correns Ss engaged in developing c. new acrylic nitrile fiber from domestic raw materials, Minister Presiden`, Grotevohl recently received the members of an engineer- ing collective vhose contributions to the machine-building industry form the basis for a structural reorganization of strategic branches of the industry. Grotewohl thanked the engineers on behalf of the German Democratic Republic and presented them with bonuses.
